Robert “Bob” Meisenheimer
Robert “Bob” Meisenheimer, 92, forever from Greenfield but more recently residing in Johnston, died on Dec. 23, 2022. Bob was born in Greenfield to George and Mabel Meisenheimer (McBride). He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1948 and the University of Iowa in 1952. Married in 1969, he and Sharon raised two sons. He had a 40-plus year IT career with the Principal Financial Group. He served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps during the end of the Korean War, with most of his time spent in Okinawa, Japan.
As a 38-year-old bachelor and successful businessman, Bob tried out for a role at the Des Moines Community Playhouse. It was here that an attractive makeup girl caught his eye and a limited run in “Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?” ended as but a footnote for a much longer run in a much more memorable endeavor: a 53-year marriage, two sons, and a life in Urbandale/Johnston.
Bob was an active volunteer with Westminster Church, the Iowa Radio Reading Information Service for the blind (IRIS), Living History Farms, Urbandale High School football, and the Drake Relays.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Brent (Jody Gehl) and Blake (Rebecca); and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.
A memorial service and visitation were held Thursday, Dec. 29 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Bob was laid to rest at the family cemetery plot in Greenfield.
