William ‘Bill’ Dale Green
William “Bill” Dale Green, 69, of Adel, died Oct. 21, 2025, in Adel, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 27, 1956, in Des Moines to Larry Green and Kaye (McDaniel) Cave, and was lovingly raised by his mother and stepfather, Don Cave.
He graduated from Dexfield High School in 1974, where he was a proud member of the Dexfield Blue Devils football team that went undefeated for 20 games and claimed the 1973 Class A Football Championship. Among his many athletic achievements, one of Bill’s proudest moments was holding the Iowa High Jump record at 6’4” for years — a remarkable accomplishment that reflected his determination and skill.
After high school, Bill attended Tarkio College and later Northwest Missouri State University, where he studied education. Over the years, his career path included selling insurance and working in a variety of logistical roles, where his strong work ethic and easygoing nature earned him the respect of coworkers and clients alike.
Bill’s lifelong love of sports and kids led him to spend many years coaching Little League baseball, football, basketball and soccer. He played a big role in developing youth sports opportunities in Adel and loved making the experience special for every child. Music also played a large role in his life.
Known for his kindness and easygoing nature, Bill was always willing to lend a helping hand — whether it was helping someone cross the street, holding a door, or stopping for a friendly conversation. He also enjoyed fishing, a good game of golf and the company of friends. His laughter, energy and love of life were contagious and unforgettable.
Bill is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Fox; his sons, Jayme (Megan) Green, Benjamin Green and Trent Green; his honorary sons, Travis (Brittney) Fox and Taylor (Allison) Fox; grandchildren, Dalton, Rhys, Jaxson, Jace, Jerret, Boston, Cameron, Olivia, Nora, Raegan and Carter; his sister, Donola Saxton; half-brother, Rusty Green; and his beloved cat, Sandy.
