Donald Cook
Donald Cook died Jan. 1, 2024, at home with his family by his side. A visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, from 9-11 a.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home - Adel Chapel, 735 S. 14th St., Adel. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Don was born on Feb. 3, 1936, in Waukee. He graduated from Adel High School in 1956, where he excelled in numerous sports. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Jones of Dallas Center, on Nov. 23, 1956.
He was an active golfer well into his 80s at Hillcrest Country Club, where he was a member for more than 50 years and hit a hole-in-one. Don took many fishing trips to Canada with friends. Don was a charter member of the men’s morning coffee club at the Corner Tap.
Don worked for the Iowa DOT for 10 years then Iowa Power and Light/MidAmerican Energy, where he retired after 29 years of service. He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 499.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane of Adel; his two children, Melody (Clarke) Marshall and Tim (Linda) Cook, both of Adel; four grandchildren, Colton (Betsy) Marshall, Carson Marshall, Allie Cook and Sam (Rachel) Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, William “Bump” and Doug; and one sister, Linda (Cook) Peck.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the ADM Alumni Association or Wesley Life Hospice.
