
Robert ‘Bob’ Jackson
Robert “Bob” Jackson, 95, died Nov. 28, 2022, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston. Born Oct. 27, 1927, in Marshalltown to Don and Mary Jackson, he graduated with honors from Loras College in 1947. He met Thelma “Mooch” Nankival while in Dubuque, and they married on March 29, 1948.
Bob and Thelma began their married life in Marshalltown as the owners of Ideal Pastry Shop and began raising their four children. In 1965, they moved to Des Moines where Bob began a new career in the insurance business. In 1976, Bob’s career returned them to Dubuque, and, in 1982, to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he became nationally known for his expertise in state insurance compliance law. He retired in 1995 to Platte City, Missouri, to be near his daughter, and they all returned to Des Moines in 1997.
Bob is survived by three of his children, Jim (Melinda), Dave (Candace), and Sue Eppenauer (Tom); 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dick; his sister, Mary Kay Hudspeth; his wife, Thelma; and his oldest son, Bob Jr.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated June 17 at 2 p.m. at the Bishop Drumm Chapel followed by a reception at McAuley Terrace. Memorials are suggested to Bishop Drumm for charity care, 5837 Winwood Drive, Johnston, IA 50131.
