
Marilyn Janet Hill
Marilyn Janet Hill died June 9, 2022. She was born in 1933 in Des Moines, with her twin sister, Marjorie Jane Hill. Marilyn grew up on a farm near Minburn. She attended all grades and graduated from Washington Township Consolidated School in 1951. Marilyn graduated from Iowa State University in child development in 1955. Later she was a graduate student at Drake University.
She married Marvin Hagedorn in 1954. Marilyn was with her husband when he was a Lieutenant in the Army for two years in various parts of the country. After this time, Marilyn was the Recreational Therapist director at Blank Memorial Hospital in Des Moines. She also taught kindergarten at Crocker School in Des Moines. They lived in Des Moines, and later Dallas Center and West Des Moines. She sang in various church choirs for forty-five years. The Dallas Center Presbyterian Church was one of Marilyn’s favorite church congregations. Marilyn taught kindergarten in Dallas Center-Grimes for 26 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers’ sorority, Des Moines Area Retired School Personnel Association, Jean Cardinell Chapter of the DAR, Retired Elementary Teachers’ group of Dallas Center-Grimes Schools, Des Moines Women’s Club, and the Washington Twp-Minburn School Restoration Association.
She is survived by children Mark (Teresa) Hagedorn and Mary Burns; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents and infant brother. Memorials may be made out to the family. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
